ABOUT OUR STORY
On a short-term missions trip to Malawi, Instruments of Joy founder Joshua MacLeod visited a dilapidated orphanage. He met an orphan there with immense musical talent who had fashioned a guitar from a gas can and a block of wood.
As Joshua listened to him play and watched the joy that he brought into the room, he thought about the three guitars in his bonus room back home collecting dust. What would this young musician be capable of if he had a quality musical instrument? Joshua decided to start a ministry that would give instruments to the wonderfully talented musicians in the developing world who are unable to acquire them. Through Instruments of Joy the young man from the orphanage was given a quality guitar. This gift was only the beginning and now orphans and aspiring musicians all over the world are being equipped with quality musical instruments. This is what Instruments of Joy is all about.
Imagine a school, church or entire community without any musical instruments! For much of the developing world, this is the reality. There are many organizations that fight poverty by providing clean water, food and clothing. These services are needed and life-changing, but a community without the proper tools for music is lacking much more than a first-world-minded person may realize. At Instruments of Joy we are focused on a very specific task: to bring hope and joy through music, equipping musicians and healing souls.
Our vision is to supply 10,000 musicians in the developing world with musical instruments to bring joy to 10,000 communities.
Our mission is to equip aspiring musicians in the developing world with quality musical instruments in Jesus’ name.
