INSTRUMENTS OF JOY UPDATE
Thanks to our donors, we will have delivered well over 200 instruments in over 40 countries this year. We just made our second delivery to Syrian refugees in Greece and equipped several community leaders in extremely remote locations along the Amazon River, Brazil. We’ve also gifted instruments to aspiring musicians in Columbia, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We continually receive stories of how IOJ instruments have impacted lives. However, we also hear of many needs that give us an opportunity to give joy! We’ve become aware of needs in Tanzania, Zambia, Haiti, South Africa and Nepal. We’ve focusing on three projects and we are asking for your help where your gift will make the greatest impact.
A CHANCE FOR ORPHANS
We’ve begun the process to reach some of the 1,000,000+ orphans in Zambia. Orphans showing interest in music can receive lessons through a local orphanage but they have a great need for more instruments. Would you sponsor an instrument for $300 so an orphan can join the music program and learn?
HEALING TOOLS FOR HUMAN TRAFFIC VICTIMS
With relief groups Nepal, we’re working to deliver quality musical instruments to trafficked women to be used as healing tools once they are pulled out of the system. However there are strong logistical challenges that make it difficult to physically deliver to this area. If we collect a handful of heavy-duty travel cases, we can to reuse them continually to deliver instruments to these women in Nepal. Will you fund a case for $200?
AT-RISK TEENS IN HAITI FINDING PURPOSE
We are working to supply instruments to at-risk teens in the LIFE Sounds program in Haiti. The class incorporates life skills encouraging teens to invest in themselves. They use guitars as chordal instruments and recorders to teach sight reading and intonation. We’d love to fully meet their need for guitars and recorders. Would you consider funding a pair of recorders for $25 so the LIFE Sounds program can engage more teens?
YOUR GIFT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Fund an instrument for an orphan in Zambia
Supply a heavy-duty case to transport instruments to trafficked women in Nepal
Sponsor a pair of recorders for at-risk teens in Haiti
Your support is how this happens.
On one of his trips, IOJ founder Joshua MacLeod spent some time playing and singing several hymns for a group of children. He then asked, “Now you sing me a song – I want to hear one of your songs.” A young orphan replied, “We forgot our songs.”
With your help we can write a different story. We’re donor funded. So it’s your gifts that allow us to continue to the mission. While we can measure the results to an extent, there is no telling the full impact that each instrument makes in the community in the hands of an owner that treasures it.
